ELKO - As the first half of the Division I-A North season comes to an end, the Lowry High School freshmen girls basketball team continues to roll through the schedule with little resistance.

The Lady Bucks (9-1 overall, 6-0 Division I-A North) kept their perfect league season intact with a 43-26 win at Elko on Friday. Amaya Herrera scored six of her eight points in the first quarter, helping the Lady Bucks to a 10-8 advantage. McKenna Jones and Hannah Hillyer each had a bucket in the opening eight minutes as well.

Lowry pulled away with a 27-8 run in the second and third quarters. The Lady Bucks held the Indians to just two field goals in the 16-minute stretch. Hillyer netted five points in the second quarter and Kenadee Jeppsen added four in the second period and Audrey Snow picked up eight points in the third quarter to give Lowry a 37-16 lead.

The Lady Bucks led by as many as 25 points, at 41-16 in the fourth quarter, before the Indians closed out the game on a 10-2 run.

Snow paced Lowry with 10 points, Hillyer added seven, Jeppsen six, Savanna Cox and Kenadee Miller each scored four points and Brooklyn Backus and Jones had two points apiece.

Lowry spent last weekend on the road as well with games at Fernley and Fallon. The Lady Bucks had little trouble Jan. 10 with a 56-11 rout of the Vaqueros.

Lowry jumped out to a 21-4 advantage in the first quarter, behind the scoring from seven players. Snow and Hillyer combined for 10 of the 21 points.

The rout continued as Lowry built a 41-6 lead at halftime and the game was played with a running clock from the third quarter on as part of the NIAA 40-point mercy rule.

Ten players reached the scorebook, with Hillyer leading all scorers with 10 points. Snow and Jeppsen added nine and eight points, respectively, and Herrera and Backus each had six points. Alexis Allen, Alyssa Campbell and Miller contributed four points apiece, Jones three and Cox two.

Close games have been few for Lowry this year, but it found itself in a battle with Churchill County. The Lady Bucks led by a point at halftime, before pulling away for the 44-26 win.

"That was a wake-up call for us," said LHS coach Amy Jenkins. "We haven't been challenged much this season. We got off to a slow start, but played much better in the second half."

Snow scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Lady Bucks outscored the Greenwave 15-8 and Lowry doubled up Churchill County in the fourth quarter to secure the win."

Snow (16), Hillyer (12) and Herrera (10) all reached double figures for Lowry. Jones added five points and Jeppsen one.

Lowry travels to Truckee today for a 3 p.m. tip off and after a month on the road the Lady Bucks return home to play Spring Creek on Tuesday at 3 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
