Free flu shots available at walk-in clinic

Free flu shots will be available at a walk-in clinic in the West Hall of the Convention Center on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. The clinic is provided by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH).

If you do not have transportation, plan on carpooling, as this an excellent way to receive a free flu vaccination. So take advantage of this one-time opportunity and plan on attending.

The "seasonal flu season" in the United States can begin as early as October and last as late as May.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone older than six months receive an annual flu vaccine. Those who are at the highest risk of developing serious complications such as pneumonia from the flu are:

• People with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and chronic lung disease; as well as their caregivers and close contacts.

• Pregnant women.

• People 65 years and older.

The Humboldt County Community Health Clinic will partner with the Frontier Community Coalition, the Humboldt General Hospital EMS team, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, the Winnemucca Police Department, Lowry High School students and others to provide the Winnemucca drive-through vaccination clinic.
