WINNEMUCCA - The Pleasant Senior Center welcomes back country singer Mary Kaye for a May 1 midday performance. Kaye will begin her concert at 12:45 p.m., immediately after lunch is served at the center, and the performance will last about one hour.
Mary Kaye is a multiple award-winning western entertainer who, with her Taylor guitar, shares the stories of the West in music and song.
Recently, she was recognized by True West Magazine as Western music's 2013 Best Solo Musician. She also just received the 2012 Song of the Year award, with cowboy poet Les Buffham, from the Western Music Association for the song "No Wilder Place."
In January of 2012 she released her third solo album, "No Wilder Place." It has been enthusiastically received and reviewed, and is rooted deeply in the Western landscape her life is immersed in. Just as the CD was released Mary Kaye was recognized as the Academy of Western Artist's 2011 Western Female Performer of the Year.
In addition, in 2010, Mary was the Western Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year. In that same year she was also awarded the Crescendo Award for best new artist, wtih Richard Lee Cody, and received a total of seven WMA nominations, two of which were for best new song.
Concert attendees do not need to eat lunch at the senior center, although that is an option. Lunch is served promptly at noon each weekday. The meal is $3 for those over 60 years, with a suggested donation of $6 for those under 60. A donation basket for the performer will be available, and her CDs will be on sale.
