WINNEMUCCA - The public is invited to attend two National Cowboy Poetry Gathering sessions at Great Basin College this Thursday, January 31. Award-winning poet James Galvin will present from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. in room 203 of the Electrical and Industrial Technology Building. Galvin has published seven books of poetry including his latest title, As Is. His honors include a Lila Wallace Foundation award, a Lannan Literary award, and fellowships from numerous foundations.
From 7:00 - 8:15 p.m.in the High Tech Center room 123, master horseman, Martin Black along with neuroscientist, Dr. Stephen Peters will speak about their book, Evidence-Based Horsemanship. Martin Black is a fifth-generation horseman who travels internationally starting colts and conducting horsemanship workshops. Dr. Peters works as a neuropsychologist at a large hospital in Iowa and specializes in equine brain research.
Both evening presentations will be broadcast via interactive video technology from Elko to campuses in Battle Mountain, Ely and Winnemucca and are sponsored by the Western Folklife Center and the GBC Arts and Cultural Enrichment committee with support from Nevada Humanities.
