Frances Alcorta Mariluch, 87, passed away the morning of July 20, 2014, in Winnemucca, Nev., with her family by her side.
"Fran" was born Sept. 5, 1926, in McDermitt, Nev., to Tomas and Dominga Alcorta and was the youngest of five children. On Sept. 15, 1951, Fran married the late Maurice "Butch" Mariluch, moved to Winnemucca, and had two daughters, Adriene and Anita.
Fran was a beloved member of the community. In addition to working as a phone operator for Nevada Bell, she was a hardworking housewife who is perhaps most famous for her incredible chocolate chip cookies. Fran loved good food and socializing and could always be found stirring around the house cooking, cleaning and entertaining family and friends.
Fran is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe, and her husband Butch. She is survived by three sisters: Tomasa Bengochea of Winnemucca, Nev.; Mary Muguira of Boise, Idaho; and Juanita Nachiondo of Elko, Nev. She is also survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Adriene and Charles Smith of Winnemucca, Nev., and Anita and Ray Hasart of Bend, Ore. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Sebastian Smith of Reno, Nev.; Amaya Smith-Mckinzie of Sacramento, Calif.; Madeleine Johnson of Boise, Idaho; and Brandon Hasart of Roseburg, Ore.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robbie Grant and the wonderful staff of Harmony Manor for the excellent care of Fran. Your kindness and dedication will always be much appreciated.
