Four candidates file for Sixth Judicial District judge

Filing open through Friday, Jan. 17

WINNEMUCCA - There are four candidates so far for Sixth Judicial District. Pershing County District Attorney Jim Shirley, attorney Todd Plimpton, and Kevin Pasquale, chief deputy district attorney with the Humboldt County District Attorney's office, traveled to Carson City and paid the $150 fee. Filing opened on Jan. 6 and will remain open through Jan. 17.

The three are candidates for Sixth Judicial District Judge, Department One, a seat currently held by Judge Richard Wagner.

Shirley is in his third term as Pershing County District Attorney. Pasquale has been with the Humboldt County District Attorney's office since January of 2011 and Plimpton is an attorney in Lovelock.

Wagner announced early on that he would not be filing for re-election to the position he has held since 1990.

The fourth to file, as of presstime Monday, was Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Michael R. Montero, who has filed for re-election for a second six-year term in Department Two. He is, so far, the lone candidate for Department Two judge.

The Sixth Judicial District serves approximately 30,000 people in Pershing, Humboldt, and Lander Counties. In addition, the Court manages the Sixth Judicial District Youth and Family Services which works with juveniles and their parents under a number of different programs.

The Sixth Judicial District also operates five specialty courts. The three which are available in all three counties are Drug Court, Family Drug Court, and Felony DUI Court. The other two courts operate only in Humboldt County: Teen Court and Truancy Court.

Filing for Sixth Judicial District Judge in both departments remains open through this Friday, Jan. 17.

Filing for all other elective offices is March 3 - 14.
