LOVELOCK - Former Lovelock Tribal BIA police officer trainee Tyler Wilson was arrested on June 5 by the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force in Artesia, N.M., while attending the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.

According to a press release from the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force, Wilson was observed by another student at FLETC to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The student then contacted his supervisor which led to an investigation.

According to PVDTF Commander Carroll Caudill, the investigation found Wilson to be in possession of 3.2 grams of methamphetamine and he was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Caudill said Wilson admitted to bringing the drugs with him from Nevada.

"We've never had anything like this. I can't fathom what this individual was thinking. He's going to school to be in law enforcement and he brings drugs with him," Caudill said.

Caudill said Wilson was cooperative during his arrest.

"When we pressed him on where he got the drugs he stopping talking to us, but other than that he was pretty cooperative," Caudill said.

At his arraignment on July 29 in Carlsbad Fifth District Court, Wilson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months with all but 90 days suspended by Judge Jane Shuler-Grey.

He is currently serving his 90 days in the Eddy County Jail. According to the Carlsbad District Court Clerk's Office, upon completion of his 90 days in jail Wilson will be released and serve the remainder of his 18 month sentence on probation.
