WINNEMUCCA - Three previous members of the Humboldt County Rodeo Club have qualified for the National College Rodeo Finals in Casper, Wyo., to be held June 10 - 16.

All three attend New Mexico schools and compete in the Grand Canyon Region. Trenten Montero and Dixie Richards both attend school at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M., and Christian Stremler attends school at Mesalands Community College.

Montero won the region in bareback riding and placed second in bull riding. He was also named the reserve all-around champion. Richards split third and fourth place in the goat tying with Brooke Smith from New Mexico Highlands University, while Stremler placed second in the region in the saddle bronc riding.

The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's last rodeo for the region took place April 27 - 28, leaving New Mexico State University's women's team ranked first in the region and second in the nation, while the men's rodeo team is ranked second regionally and nationally.

In all-around competition Richards came in first place during the rodeo. Montero and Cody Mirabal represented the men's team by coming in second and third in all around points.

The women's team held four out of seven spots in goat tying, including Richards in first place. The Aggies also held five of nine spots in breakaway roping, with Dixie Richards fourth.

"New Mexico State rodeo finished the regular season strong and hopefully will continue our championship drive straight into the College National Finals Rodeo in June," said NMSU rodeo coach Jim Brown.

At the College National Finals Rodeo the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association crowns individual event champions and awards national team championships to men's and women's teams.
