Food bank launches new toll free number for rural SNAP outreach

RENO -The Food Bank of Northern Nevada announced last week a toll-free number to help clients in rural areas of Nevada apply for SNAP Benefits (formerly known as food stamps).

Clients living in northern Nevada, outside of Washoe County, can call toll free to apply for SNAP Benefits with a Food Bank of Northern Nevada outreach worker. The phone number is 1-888-304-SNAP (7627) and will be operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Many families struggling with hunger in the rural areas of Nevada may live miles away from the nearest office to apply for SNAP," said Clyde Takahashi, chief operations officer at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. "With this toll-free number, we are hoping to break down some of the barriers that are keeping hungry families from benefits."

In Nevada more than half of all SNAP Benefits awarded go to families with children. One in every four of Nevada's children struggles with hunger in the state.[[In-content Ad]]
