WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders returned from their four-day camp at UC Davis in Davis, Calif., with numerous awards and five All-Americans.
The varsity cheerleaders won three first-place awards at the camp, which was held from July 14 - 17. The Buckaroos won the Herkie Award for true spirit, along with the champion chant award and stunting technique award.
Alexia Victoria, who is new to the team this year, was named the best cheerleader at the camp. In addition, Michael Drake and Ashley Principe have been asked to be on the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) staff.
The junior varsity squad captured a number of awards as well, including the most improved and first-place honors in game-day performance, spot award and champion chant.
Drake, Principe and Victoria off the varsity team were chosen for All-American status, as was junior varsity cheerleaders Jessie Schirrick and Makenna Mavity. There were seven All-Americans chosen out of 112 girls and five of them went to Lowry High School.
The All-American honor is the most prestigious award in cheerleading. The cheerleaders were judged on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiasm, voice projection and overall crowd.
The group has a choice to go to Orlando, Fla., as part of the NCA/NDA Christmas Extravaganza from Nov. 29 - Dec. 2 and take part in the Walt Disney World® Christmas Parade to be televised on Christmas Day. They could also decide to go to London, England, to take part in the London New Year's Day Parade from Dec. 6 - Jan. 2, 2013.
