Fishing trip around 1910
It's summer. You can tell by the water level. This is Rena, proudly carrying her string of trout up from the river. It is the South Fork of the Little Humboldt and she and her family had been on a fishing trip for two days. According to the information that came on the card, they were about 75 miles from Winnemucca. That would place them quite a distance from where Chimney Dam is now. Far enough from town that they needed two days to get in any fishing.
Imagine the effort it took for the young lady to fish at all. She was dressed in a long skirt and the two to three petticoats respectable women wore at all times. Even on family fishing trips. All of that clothing in the middle of the summer. Compiled by Barbara Powell. She can be reached at nevadasdesertlegends.com.[[In-content Ad]]
