On Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m., the Bureau of Land Management and the Humboldt Museum are sponsoring a presentation by paleontologist Dr. Martin Sander from the University of Bonn, Germany at the Humboldt Museum in Winnemucca.

The presentation will highlight Ichthyosaurs and other marine reptile fossils found in northern Nevada by paleontologists over the last 25 years.  These are noteworthy scientific discoveries, which include the Thalattoarchon Saurophagist, also known as the "Lizard Eating Sovereign of the Seas" which was featured in National Geographic magazine.

Sander will be discussing how these marine reptiles evolved following a massive extinction event 250 million years ago and how they thrived in the ancient seas covering the high mountain tops of the Augusta Mountains southeast of Winnemucca.

The Humboldt Museum is located at 175 Museum Lane off US 95 across from Pioneer Park. For more information contact Peggy McGuckian at the Winnemucca BLM office at (775) 623-1500 or the Humboldt Museum at (775) 623-2912.
