Firewood permits for Carson City BLM District are now available

CARSON CITY - With the arrival of fall and colder temperatures, the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District is selling firewood cutting permits to help prepare for the winter months. Pinyon pine and Utah juniper permits are $10 a cord. Only dead trees, standing or down may be cut. Maps of authorized firewood cutting areas are provided when purchasing permits.

One-cord permits are valid for 30 days and two-cord permits are valid for up to 60 days. Three-plus cord permits are valid up to 90 days. People may purchase up to ten cords before a commercial firewood cutting permit is required.

While out cutting firewood, remember to be in possession of your permit and map. In addition, all chainsaws must be equipped with spark arrestors.

BLM permits for firewood will be sold at various locations, including the BLM Carson City District Office, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
