Fire during dance forces evacuation of Winnemucca Convention Center

WINNEMUCCA - An unknown suspect set what appeared to be an intentional fire in the second floor men's bathroom at the Winnemucca Convention Center on Oct. 15 at approximately 11:26 p.m., according to a press release from the Winnemucca Police Department. At the time, there was a dance in progress with approximately 200 people in attendance.

Winnemucca Volunteer Fire Department Chief Alan Olsen reported that his firefighters responded to the scene and discovered that someone had lit a seat protector holder on fire. He stated that the second floor was full of smoke and he ordered the building to be evacuated.

According to Olsen, the fire was extinguished and there were no injuries to report.
