WINNEMUCCA - The final week of the regular season for the fall sports high school season is upon us, while one team will be competing in the postseason.
The Lowry High School cross country team is in Reno on Saturday to run at Rancho San Rafael Park in the Division I-A Regional Championships.
The boys Division I-A North Regional Championship race will start at 10:40 a.m. at Rancho San Rafael Park. The Division I-A girls run at 1:15 p.m.
The top three teams from the Northern League Championship meet and the top three teams from the Southern League Championship meet qualify for the six-team state championship meet in Reno on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The top five individuals from non-qualifying teams out of the Northern League championship meet and the top five individuals from non-qualifying teams out of the Southern League championship meet also advance to the state championships.
The Lowry football team travels to Fallon on Friday to face undefeated Churchill County at 7 p.m. The Buckaroos enter the contest at 7-1 in the Division I-A North and 8-1 overall.
A win by Lowry would create a three-way tie atop the standings, along with Elko. From there, tiebreakers would be used to slot the three teams.
If Lowry loses, they will travel to Elko on Friday, Nov. 8, for an opening round game in the state playoffs. The Indians are the only team to beat the Buckaroos this year.
The Lowry volleyball team has two matches remaining, beginning with a road trip to Elko tonight at 6 p.m.
If the Lady Bucks, defeat the Indians and knock off Spring Creek on Saturday in Winnemucca, they will earn the No. 3 seed and face Truckee in the first round of the regional playoffs. If Lowry splits its final two matches, it will play Dayton in the playoffs at a site to be determined.
The Lowry boys soccer team hosts Spring Creek on Thursday at 4 p.m. and travels to Elko on Friday, also at 4 p.m., to close out its regular season. The Buckaroos will have to sweep both matches to position itself in a playoff spot.
Sparks, Truckee and South Tahoe have clinched playoff spots. Lowry is battling Churchill County and Spring Creek for the final spot into the regional playoffs.
The Lowry girls soccer team travels to Spring Creek on Thursday and hosts Elko on Friday to close out its season. The Lady Bucks have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The McDermitt volleyball team closes out its regular season on Friday at Owyhee with an opportunity to reach the regional playoffs to be played in Reno at Wooster High School. A sweep over the Braves would put the Lady Bulldogs in the playoffs.[[In-content Ad]]
