Final Four member California to be part of 2013 Nugget Classic at Lawlor in November

RENO - The University of Nevada women's basketball team announced that California, Wake Forest and Idaho will be part of 2013 Nugget Classic on Nov. 29-30 at Lawlor Events in Reno.

"I am extremely excited about this year's Nugget Classic and would like to thank John Ascuaga's Nugget for their continued support of this event," said Nevada coach Jane Albright. "We are bringing in some quality teams from the Pac-12, ACC, and WAC that will prepare our team for our second season in the Mountain West."

California joins the field of participants following a 32 win 2012-13 season.

The Bears finished the 2012-13 year as the Pac-12 regular season champion, before making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament where the team fell to Louisville 64-57 in the Final Four.

California leads the overall series with Nevada 5-0. The two teams last met on a neutral court during the 2009-10 season, where the Bears defeated the Pack 85-60.

Wake Forest ended its 2012-13 season 13-19, falling to No. 10 Maryland 92-81 in overtime of the ACC Tournament quarterfinal game.

The Demon Deacons season was highlighted by an 80-72 road win at No.18/22 Florida State. Wake Forest and Nevada have met once, facing each other last season where the Deacons knocked off the Wolf Pack 77-54 in Winston-Salem.

Former WAC foe Idaho, returns to Reno following a conference championship, the team's first since 1985. The Vandals were matched up with eventual national champion Connecticut on UConn's home floor in the first round of the NCAA tournament, where they lost 105-37.

Idaho leads the overall series with Nevada 18-16. In the last meeting, the Vandals defeated the Pack 87-86 in an overtime game during the 2011-12 season at Lawlor Events Center.

Nevada will face Idaho in the Nugget Classic opener on Friday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup between California and Wake Forrest at 7:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games will take place Saturday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m., and 8 p.m., respectively.
