Fifth graders explore Lamoille Canyon with Nevada Outdoor School

WINNEMUCCA - Nevada Outdoor School wrapped up September with its annual fifth-grade field trip to the stunningly-beautiful and biologically-diverse Lamoille Canyon of the Ruby Mountains on Sept. 24.

Students experienced firsthand the canyon's impressive signs of glaciation, diverse wildlife and other natural phenomena. The day was full of inquiry-based hands-on experiences for students, including interpretive-nature hikes, science experiments about the movement of glaciers, lessons on rocks and minerals, outdoor games about animal adaptations and site-specific lessons, including exploring a beaver pond.

Barrick Gold Corporation - Turquoise Ridge generously sponsored this field trip, allowing NOS to provide this experience to fifth-grade students free of charge.[[In-content Ad]]
