French Ford Middle School hosted its fifth Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 10. The guest speaker was retired USMC Col. Sam Routson, a local attorney. He spoke to the kids about service to country. Each anthem of the military was sung by the student body, and the community was well represented by veterans and many guests of the children. FFMS Principal Robert Lindsay delivered a message that the event was not a glorification of war, but a glorification of service to the nation. After the assembly, all participants went outside to fire a single cannon shot by retired Col. Skip Hammargren. Hammargren brought Routson into the gym on his jeep. Retired Col. Dick Robie of Paradise Valley also participated and was dressed in a World War I uniform. Hammargren was in a World War II uniform.[[In-content Ad]]
