Editor:
I completely agree with the story (Sun, July 20-23) of feral cats and not having an animal pound but only a dog pound. I have come across many feral cats in the city of Winnemucca near businesses that people go to. I figure they dump these poor animals while doing their every day business because they have no place else to take them.
Currently, a friend and I are caring for one of these feral cats and keeping her well fed and hoping that someday we can catch her to get her spayed.
Recently, we rescued two of her kittens and they now have very happy homes. We just could not let these poor babies live in the wild and spread diseases they have no control over.
We pay taxes to support an animal shelter. So why don't we have one? Why is it only for dogs? Don't cats and other animals count in this town? We also hope that the city officials pay attention to this problem and do something about it. After all, that is what they are paid to do.
