The Frontier Community Action Agency (FCAA) would like to take this time to make sure the community of Humboldt County understands the reason for their existence. The FCAA is a non-profit 501-C3 working towards a better tomorrow for all those in need.
Our mission is to empower the community and ensure equal opportunity for low-income citizens. The FCAA exists for the primary purpose of addressing the needs of low-income citizens. FCAA will establish programs and support policies that address social and economic issues faced by low-income, special or at-risk residents of Elko, Humboldt, Lander, and Pershing Counties in Nevada. FCAA will collaborate with community members on strategies and techniques to implement changes that bring about opportunity and enable citizens to secure economic self-reliance.
We are funded through the Department of Health and Human Services, whom sends funds to the State Grant Management Unit, whom then awards the funds to FCAA. The FCAA then sub-awards funds to Friends in Service Helping in Elko, the Family Resource Center in Battle Mountain, the Back Pack Kids Program, Summer Food Service Program, and Miles for Smiles in Lovelock, and the Family Resource Center in Winnemucca where the programs mentioned above are funded as well as other programs and services.
The services provided here in Winnemucca include assistance in completing and sending in applications such as: Medicaid, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Energy Assistance, Nevada Check-up, Low-Income Housing, Children's Cabinet, Birth Certificates, and Social Security cards. Currently the FCAA is the only Welfare Liaison for Humboldt County with the assistance of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The FCAA in Winnemucca also provides one-on-one case management with resume building, completing employment applications, interview skills & etiquette, college enrollments, applying for financial assistance for college, financial literacy classes, and resource referral. All of the services provided are in place to promote the development and support of strategies and techniques that encourages social change, thereby bringing about greater opportunities and economic self-reliance for individuals and families.
The FCAA collaborates with community members on the strategies and techniques to implement changes that bring about opportunity and enable citizens to secure economic self-reliance through the Family Stability Council. The Family Stability Council meets regularly to discuss common concerns and pool resources together for the benefit of the citizen's, agencies, and the community as a whole. The goals this group has met for our community would not have happened without everyone brainstorming the solutions to the issues brought forward by the participants. As a result, the FCAA plays a vital role at responding to the needs of the clients, and promoting the interaction and networking of individual and families between much needed social service resources. By creating easy access to the full range of services provided above, the FCAA is able to help individuals and families move up and out of poverty, and as a result allow the community to begin to thrive. In addition, the efficient optimization of service delivery allows for more integrated face-to-face contact between the client and Family Advocate. The FCAA encourages increased community collaboration between local businesses, non-profits, churches, school, county, state, and federal partners to continue to maximize our counties resources and reduce Humboldt County's duplication of services. As a result, the FCAA will continue to support efforts that focus on the betterment and growth of our community.
The staff of the FCAA would also like to thank all those whom used our free tax preparation services or VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site in preparing their taxes for 2012! We completed more taxes this year then all of the other tax seasons and we couldn't have done it without you.
The FCAA is always open to those who would like to volunteer or learn more about our current community efforts within Humboldt County and the other programs we offer. If you have any additional questions regarding our organization, you may contact us at (775) 623-9003. Or stop by our offices, located at 640 Melarkey Street, Suite 3, Winnemucca, Nevada. The more people know about the social issues affecting our community, the more likely they are to take action to help or know how to help their own children and families.
