ELKO ― Utah State University Extension and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension are co-sponsoring a two-day workshop entitled, Farm/Ranch Estate and Transition Planning, March 1-2 at the Red Lion Hotel and Casino, 2065 Idaho Street in Elko.
Owners, operators and successors of farming and ranching operations who are planning to transition their operation to successors are encouraged to attend the workshop. Instructors include Utah State University Extension faculty, as well as local attorneys and mediators.
Workshop topics include family and business visioning and communication, goal setting, business succession and management transfer plans, as well as estate planning tools, issues and considerations.
According to Kynda Curtis, USU Extension agribusiness specialist and workshop organizer, the workshop will provide farming families the opportunity to explore options and processes for transitioning their farm or ranch to the next generation or other successor.
"This workshop provides the setting, instructors and resources to stimulate conversations farm families should have when considering a multiple-generation farm business," she said.
Registration cost is $50 per person and includes breakfast, lunch, breaks and all materials for the two-day workshop. Funding for the workshop is provided by the USDA-Risk Management Agency, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Utah State University Extension.
