WINNEMUCCA - The farm came to the city for Winnemucca grade-school students in May. About 150 students from Sonoma Heights and French Ford Middle School participated in the event, which teaches kids about agriculture. Students were instructed on the care and handling of farm animals. Education regarding the baby goats was provided by Madison Montero. Education regarding the baby lambs/sheep was provided by Julianne Montero. The baby pig education was provided by Julianne, Madison and Mike Montero, who is a district court judge. All the animals were the Monteros, except for the baby pigs, which were provided by Dave and Becky Louk. The school children were able to have hands-on education with horses, a donkey, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea hens, peacocks and dogs. The students were instructed on various farm animals, including how to properly care for and handle each type of farm animal. "We look forward to growing the program in the future for more students," Mike Montero said. "This was our second year of providing this educational opportunity to the local schools."[[In-content Ad]]
