Jeremy Hurst said he feels like he's finally come home.

The new family nurse practitioner at Humboldt General Hospital has seen his fair share of homes over the years, traversing from one end of the world to the other, first while his mother served in the military, and then while Hurst himself pinned the bars.

But Monday, Oct. 27, Hurst officially hung his shingle in the new medical office building at Humboldt General Hospital.

"So, after a very successful career in the United States Air Force we are now living in the beautiful town of Winnemucca," he said.

"Being able to start and to see new patients with the ability to serve this community is super exciting," added Hurst.

"J," as he prefers to be called, was born at Kincheloe Air Force Base in northern Michigan. His childhood included several moves, but he claims California and Idaho as his childhood homes; the majority of his family still live there.

After graduating from high school, Hurst lived in Taiwan twice, Idaho, California, North Carolina, Alabama and Nebraska.

"Needless to say, my beautiful wife, Sarah, finally had enough of my world wandering and wanted a stable place to raise our daughter," he said.

And Hurst said he couldn't have found a nicer place than Winnemucca.

"We have loved Winnemucca from the moment we got here," he said.

He said neighbors and new friends showed up to help them move. His daughter's school has been wonderful and welcoming, "and I wanted a place where I could feel supported as a provider and make a difference, and I have found that."

He added, "Without a shadow of a doubt, we are in the right place."

Humboldt General Hospital officials feel the same way.

"We are so pleased to welcome Jeremy to HGH," said CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish. "He is a very engaging person and obviously a very dedicated provider. It is a good fit for us and for him and his family and we feel very fortunate to have him on our team."

Hurst's professional background includes undergraduate degrees in nursing and public health education. He spent most of his early career as a floor oncology nurse before completing his graduate studies at Duke University to become a family nurse practitioner.

"I am grateful to be here," said Hurst. "I truly care for the people I treat; I want to treat people the way they need to be treated."

He added, "I want to have the opportunity to make a difference in a great small town, and to raise my family around good people."

Jeremy Hurst, FNP-C, practices upstairs in Suite F of Humboldt General Hospital's medical office building, located at 118 E. Haskell Street. His office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is closed for lunch.
