LOVELOCK - Job hunters were recently interviewed for management jobs at the new Family Dollar variety store set to open March 29 in Lovelock. Those who missed the session can still be considered for the next round of interviews by completing an online application on the company's website.
The website lists openings in Lovelock for temporary customer service representatives.
Brandy Taylor, district manager for Store Operations, said she interviewed about 14 people for the positions of store manager and assistant manager last week.
"We had some good candidates," Taylor said. Final selections have not been made on who will be hired for the management jobs, she said. Taylor is training Jim Puckett of Reno for the job of district manager.
In about two weeks, Taylor said there will be a "mass hire" for 20 temporary customer service representatives to stock the store with merchandise after painting and construction on the new building are completed. She could not give an exact date for the interviews. The event will be held either at the library or at the store if construction is completed at that time, she said.
Taylor reminded job seekers that they must first apply online before an in-person interview will be scheduled. Go to the company's website at familydollar.com.
Permanent store employees will probably be selected from the group of temporary workers hired to set up the store, Taylor said. She could not predict the number of permanent employees needed for the Lovelock store.
"It depends on how busy the store is," Taylor said. Starting salaries and hourly wages will depend on experience. A high school diploma or equivalent and some customer service experience are preferred, according to the company's website.
After construction is complete, the company's merchandising department will take possession of the facility for the five- to six-week process of stocking shelves, Lovelock
Mayor Mike Giles said.
Taylor confirmed the store's grand opening is planned for March 29.
The discount store will offer shoppers a variety of affordable goods not available elsewhere in Lovelock, including groceries, household items, clothing, toys and other family items. According to the 50-year-old, Fortune 400 company's website, there are more 7,000 Family Dollar stores in 44 states "from Maine to Florida and as far west as Idaho and Arizona, from downtown urban locations to rural areas and small towns."
