Fall sports season under way for local high school teams

The 2014 fall sports season begins this weekend for Lowry High School.

The Lowry freshmen and varsity football teams open the season on Thursday as they travel to Reno to play North Valleys in non-conference games at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

The Buckaroos make their home debut on Friday, Sept. 11, for the freshmen and Friday, Sept. 12, for the JV and varsity against Truckee.

The Lowry volleyball team will travel to Tahoe City, Calif., on Friday and Saturday for the North Tahoe Invitational.

The Lady Bucks are scheduled to play Smith Valley at 5 p.m. on Friday and Sierra Lutheran and Hug at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively, on Saturday. Bracket play will start on 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Bucks see their first action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 23, against Churchill County.

Lowry's boys and girls JV soccer teams make the trip east on Friday and Saturday for the Spring Creek Jamboree. The varsity soccer teams start a week later with the Spring Creek Jamboree on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6.

The varsity boys team makes its home debut on Tuesday, Sept. 9, versus Churchill County and the Lady Bucks will be at home on Thursday, Sept. 18.

The Lowry girls golf team opens its season with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Dayton and South Tahoe, respectively. The Lady Bucks host the Division I-A North on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The cross country teams start the year on Friday, Sept. 5, when they travel to Whittell. The Buckaroos' lone home meet is Friday, Oct. 10, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The McDermitt High School volleyball team is set to open its schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at home against Crane, Ore., in a non-conference match.

The McDermitt High School football team is scheduled to play its first game on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. at Pyramid Lake. The Bulldogs make their home debut on Friday, Sept. 12, against Wells at 3 p.m.
