WINNEMUCCA - The Wright brothers would be proud.
One hundred and eight years to the day after Orville and Wilbur first took to the skies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will honor local pilot Leon Franklin for his safety record.
Franklin has been flying aircraft for 50 years now. But in all of that time, he's never had a single accident, according to Dr. Chet Stringham of Winnemucca.
To celebrate that achievement, FAA Safety Team Program Manager Ken Kelley will be on hand this Saturday, Dec. 17, to present Franklin with a very prestigious award.
The timing is a pure coincidence, but it couldn't be a greater tribute to the airport board chairman, genuine war hero and all-around super cool guy, Stringham said.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the airport office.
