There are two logos now on the high school and each one is approximately 11 by 14 feet. They are powder-coated, heavy gauge plasma cut metal by Mountain Man Originals of Ontario, Ore.
Since the building was painted last year, there was a concern about the two large blank walls. The idea of a logo was agreed upon, with designs approved by building administration and the student leadership class.
The total cost of this project was $10,000, with half funded through holdover monies from last year's high school budget and half from last year's district budget.
In addition, lights will soon be installed to illuminate the logos at night.
This project is part of several summer projects to improve the district's facilities.
Other projects on tap this summer include two new scoreboards for the high school gym at a total cost of just over $10,000. The booster club graciously funded one of the scoreboards and the athletic department funded the other. A remote control drop-down flag will also soon be a feature at the high school gym.
In addition, a new canopy will be placed over the front high school entrance. This canopy will be similar to the canopies already covering the two gym entrances. Early projections placed the cost at around $30,000 but the district is seeking a lower quote.
At the junior high, new sod is being laid for the start of the new school year. During the spring, the building received a facelift with new metal cladding was applied to the exterior to help extend the life of the building and as an energy cost-saving measure.
