The Lowry High School Comprehensive Life Skills (CLS) class recently toured the Humboldt Sun to explore the inner workings of a newspaper office. Above (back row, left to right) is Andrew Madrid, Eric Barber, Michael Simpson, Ryley Scott (teacher assistant) and Leanne Peters (CLS teacher). Middle row (left to right) is Gloria Avila (aide), Angel Ward, Juan Castro, Edgar Rodriguez and Patty Melanovich (bus driver),. Front row (left to right) is Katie Hillyer, Johaunna Maloon and Gabby Smith. This was the second community outing of this school year for the LHS CLS class. During this time, students are learning the job skills needed to obtain employment post-high school. In Job Skills, they learn how to work with others (boss and co-workers), how to treat customers, how to plan and save monies for the future, create a resume, fill out applications, narrow down job preferences and interests and role-play what interviews may look like. They also explore career options by going on community outings and visiting local businesses every Thursday. Students toured the Humboldt Sun and all of the departments and saw the makings of a newspaper. The class may just have some future reporters, photographers, editors, and printers in their midst![[In-content Ad]]
