Esther entered eternal life on July 9, 2012, at Nyssa Gardens. She was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Wing, N.D., to George and Margaret Mauch.
After leaving school, she lived and worked in Colorado and California. She married Donald G. Peters in 1944 and worked as lead man in the Wing Section of Douglas Aircraft during WWII. She was a devoted mother and established leadership roles with the PTA, Camp Fire and Cub Scouts.
In 1963 the couple purchased Grove Mercantile & Hotel, Denio, and in 1966 built the Denio Junction & Motel. During that time she was instrumental in bringing phone service, getting Denio placed on the map, working on the Winnemucca to the Sea Highway program and in bringing the Crescent City driftwood to Winnemucca.
In 1973 after Donald's death, she partnered with Edmond Casey in a farm in Fallon. In 1977 she married Edmond Casey and they ran the farm until his death in 1980. In 1985 she reconnected and married Robert J. Slagle and they did extensive traveling. Robert died in 1986.
She enjoyed time with her grandchildren teaching crafts and about farm life. In 1991 she moved to Winnemucca where she enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. In 2006 she entered Nyssa Gardens Assisted Living, Nyssa, Ore.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Linda Willer, son Donald Peters (Jessell) all of Winnemucca, and daughter Debra Odette of Vale, Ore., sisters Adeline Wollert, Lamar Colo., Agnes Swazo, Grand Junction, Colo., Corine Shelton, Lake Forest, Calif., and brother Robert Mauch, Checotah, Okla., "Gooses" 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and brothers Fred, Edwin, Reuben and Alfred Mauch and sisters Lenora Voight and Connie Wakeland and in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone, the staff of Nyssa Gardens and XL Hospice for their support. At her request there will be no service. A private family memorial will be held later. Esther will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Thank you for being our Mother and one classy lady.
