WINNEMUCCA - "Ernie Pyle: Voice of the Common GI" will be presented at the Pleasant Senior Center on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Chat with one of America's most famous war correspondents! Journalist Ernie Pyle covered World War II through the eyes of ordinary soldiers. His unpretentious pieces about their hardships and sacrifices received the attention of millions of readers, and in 1944 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his work. Pyle was killed by Japanese machine-gun fire in April 1945. Compilations of his war columns appear in "Here is Your War" (1943), "Brave Men" (1944) and "Last Chapter" (1946).

Pyle also wrote "Home Country," a collection of his daily newspaper columns that includes a fascinating article about Josie Pearl, a famous Nevada resident of the southern Pine Forest Range.

This Humanities on the Road event is sponsored by Nevada Humanities, The National Endowment for the Humanities and NV Energy. This presentation is free and open to the public.

The Pleasant Senior Center is located at 1480 Lay St. (at Pleasant Street), Winnemucca.
