Humboldt County's largest parade will celebrate two special anniversaries this year: the 93rd anniversary of the Labor Day Parade, and the 150th anniversary of the Silver State.
That's why this year's theme is "Happy Birthday Nevada."
Ag 3 Director Kim Petersen said entrants may interpret the theme as they see fit. "This will be a fun theme and a fun way for participants to celebrate our annual Tri-County Fair & Stampede."
Petersen added, "We think it will result in some really great entries."
The Labor Day Parade-the event that officially kicks off each year's Tri-County Fair & Stampede-has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30.
Parade entries in a dozen different categories are now being accepted through 5 p.m. Monday, August 25.
Once again, the parade will be produced by the Northern Nevada ATV Association; the longtime event is sponsored by the Agricultural District No. 3.
The annual event will begin at the Model T Resort Casino. It will come to rest in the parking lot at the Winnemucca Events Complex. The parade will include the usual array of floats, mounts, marchers, clowns and politicians.
Parade awards and prize money will be awarded to winners of the Most Original and One Moccasin entries. Plaques and prize money will be awarded to first place winners in a dozen other categories, with rosettes going to second- and third-place winners.
Those categories include Hitch-Drawn Vehicles, Commercial, Non-Commercial, Novelty Group, Best Ethnic, Political, 12 Years and Under, Best Musical, Mounted Group, Walking Group, Mounted Individual and Autos of the Past.
Parade results will be announced at the Saturday performance of the new Bulls & Broncs Rodeo scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Winnemucca Events Complex Main Outdoor Arena.
