Emigdio V. Herrera, age 54, died outside his home in Lovelock, on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011. The official cause of death is unknown at this time.
Born Jan. 9, 1956, in Acahuato Michoacan, Mexico, he lived in Oregon before settling in Lovelock. He worked at Eagle Picher Minerals as a mechanic and also operated a small recycling business from his home.
Emigdio is survived by his Daughters Misty and Cecilia, Grandchildren Elijah, Benjamin and Truly, Brothers Jose, Miguel, Fredriko, Antonio, Alberto and Sister Ana, as well as many beloved Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Services were held at the Lovelock Funeral Home and the Catholic Church on October 14 & 15 before sending Emigdio home to Mexico.
Emigdio was the eldest of 9 children and after tragically losing his father, became the family father figure at age 17. With dreams of becoming a doctor, he attended and excelled at medical school in Mexico for a time. In pursuit of a better way to provide for his family, Emigdio came to the United States. He spent the rest of his life working hard to provide for his family both in Mexico and here in the U.S. Emigdio is remembered as a kind, fair and generous man, always eager to help anyone that needed it. He had natural charisma and made many friends wherever he went.
Emigdio's passing came as a shock to both his family and the entire community. We miss him so much already. The family would like to thank this community for their support and care in this difficult time.
Arrangements were made through Lovelock Funeral Home.
