Elva A. Davis, 79, died March 16 at the Arbors Memory Care Center, in Sparks, Nev., of Alzheimer's.

She was born Dec. 26, 1933, to Lyman and Hortense Ashby in Pioche, Nev. Later she moved to Ely, where her father worked for Isbell Construction Company as a shovel operator in an open pit copper mine. Her mother was a homemaker.

Elva met Elmer Davis, in Ely, when he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. They got married on March 30, 1951. They moved to Winnemucca in 1952. Elmer was still with S.C.S. Elva worked at Kirk's Market on Bridge Street. Elmer started Davis Ranch Service, doing irrigation system for ranchers and farmers. Later he became a real estate broker.

Elva started a ceramic shop on Davis Lane, called E&E Ceramics, and operated it for 10 years.

Elva is preceded in death of her husband of 46 years, Elmer, her parents Lyman and Hortence Ashby, her sister Larose Reese, her brother Melvin and Loraine Ashby.

Elva is survived by her daughter, Carrie Johnson (Don), of Winnemucca, son Matt Davis (Kay), of Sheridan, Wyo., son Mark Davis, of Reno, Nev., grandchildren Sherry Hedden (Dennis), of Sparks, Don Johnson, Jr., of Round Mountain, Chris Davis, of Las Vegas, Al Davis, of Sheridan, Wyo., Melinda Jay, of Reno, her great grandchildren Jacob and Jessica Murphy, her sister Gayle Mattice (Walt), of Yerington, her sister Ione Jackman, of Cedar City, Utah, and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, no services are planned. Her cremation arrangements are under the direction of Albertsons Funeral Home.
