Edwin W. Bodily, "Grandpa Ed," 92, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his home surrounded by family.
Born in Chandler, Ariz., on April 20, 1921, to Charles David and Bertha Stewart Bodily, he received his bachelor of science in dairy husbandry from the University of Idaho, immediately followed by service to his country as a captain in the U. S. Army Infantry Division stationed in Germany during WWII. Upon completion of his active duty, Ed and his wife Beth (Morrall) Bodily moved to Winnemucca where he began his proprietorship with Beth's family at C.B. Brown Company. Purchasing the Stinson-Burger Furniture store in 1963 (since renamed Bodily's Furniture) in Elko, Ed spent 67 years in business activity and has left a strong imprint on the business life of Winnemucca and Elko.
Ed was very active in the community as a member of Silver State Chapter #6 Order of Eastern Star, Winnemucca Lodge #19 F and AM, a past president of the Winnemucca Lions Club, Rainbow Girls Advisory Board, and served the National High School Rodeo Association for over 30 years as a local and state adviser, national board member, and a mentor to countless youth involved in the sport.
Always a man of his word, Ed lived his life as an example of integrity, honesty, dedication, and impeccable work ethics. From high school rodeo athletes, 4-H members, employees, customers from near and far, to his most priceless possession -his family. "Gramps," as he was called by most who knew him well, was admired, respected, and cherished, and his life lessons will never be forgotten.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 70 ½ years, Irma "Beth" Bodily, son Kenton Bodily (Marilyn) of Gig Harbor, Wash., daughters Jeannie Gillins (Ed) of Elko, Myrna Gallian and Arlene Myers of Winnemucca, and two sisters, Thelma "Pete" Stephenson of Danville, Ind., and Maurine Pugmire of San Diego, Calif. Continuing his legacy are nine grandchildren - Jeff Garijo, Megan Garijo Pruitt, Katie Garijo, Danny Gillins, Scott Gillins, K. C. Bodily, Melissa Bodily Erwin, Sadie Myers-Miller, and Annie Myers and six great grandchildren.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Ed "Gramps" Bodily will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Winnemucca. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his name be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 138 W. Winnemucca Boulevard, Winnemucca, NV 89445.
