The meeting is the fourth in a series of nine economic brain-storming workshops and training sessions. Anyone concerned with economic development may attend, according to Pershing County Commissioner Carol Shank.
"Everyone is invited. We need community input," she said.
The session is titled "Developing Your Visions and Goals." Participants will discuss a vision statement for the community and ideas for regional economic development.
Sponsored by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, USDA Rural Development, Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development and the UNR Center for Economic Development, the series of monthly workshops are designed to promote cooperative regional development in rural counties across northern Nevada. Also involved in hosting the program is the eight-county Western Nevada Development District (WNDD).
"The purpose is to help rural communities and counties work together as a regional team in developing and implementing an economic development blueprint that builds on the current and emerging economic strengths of the region," according to an official statement on the SET program.
"A good thing is it will promote regionalization and cooperation between all the different counties and communities," said Heidi Lusby-Angvick, director of the
Pershing County Economic Diversification Authority (PCEDA). "Anyone can participate. We would like to see as big a Pershing County presence as possible - just so the community knows what we're doing and where the state is going for economic development."
After the Lovelock workshop, five more SET sessions are scheduled with the next two on May 8 - 9 in Minden titled "Examining Current Demographic Features of Your Region" and "Exploring Opportunities for a Stronger Regional Economy."
"Come with an open mind, listen and don't be afraid to participate," Lusby-Angvick said. "There's lots of hands-on, question and answer (time) and thoughts going through the air."
There will be no charge for coffee and lunch at the Lovelock workshop. Anyone planning to attend is asked to please notify Lusby-Angvick at (775) 273-4909 or e-mail her at pceda.hlusby@gmail.com.
