Humboldt Regional Planning Commission agendas are available on-line at the Humboldt County website right now, but within the next couple of months, the full packets containing background content and staff reports on planning commission agenda items will also be available on line.
This information has always been available to anyone willing to come in and request it from the planning office in the courthouse, but sometimes it's hard for people to know they might need such information before they know what information is there that might affect their property or lifestyle.
In an effort to make the work of the planning commission more transparent and increase the public's opportunity to participate in decisions being made, the Humboldt County Commissioners decided at their retreat earlier this year to work toward making available to the public, on the Internet, the same planning commission packet information that the commissioners have before them.
Plans are also underway to make the public more aware of pending planning commission action regarding county conditional use permits. Those special use permit applications will be published in the newspaper in the same way zone change applications are published now.
These two actions come in response to direction from the Humboldt County Commissioners. Whether city special use permits may be published will depend on City Council direction.
Two conditional use permits were granted at the most recent planning commission meeting Feb. Commnet Wireless of Nevadca LLC was given approval for placement of a wireless communications site at 8485 Cindy Lane. Rusty Leflar and rLm Ranch received a conditional use permit to raise cattle and pigs to be sold through Community Support Agriculture shares on his property at 4500 and 4540 Davis Lane.
A third conditional use permit application by Brandon Crawford to allow bird hunting club for chukar and pheasants on property between Dutch Flat Road and Eden Valley Road was continued because the planning commissioners had a number of questions, and Crawford wasn't present at the meeting to answer them.
In other planning commission action, four separate subsequent parcel map applications by Robert and Beverly Shell were approved. Each subsequent parcel split will divide property into four lots, for a total of 16 new lots created on Moon Lane just west of Boardwalk court (between Nancy Lane and Boardwalk. Shell's agent, John Milton of Desert Mountain Surveying said these lots are some of the last that are available for development on Moon Lane. The parcel splits divided two different pieces of property that together totaled five acres. Milton commented that by the time they finish all the layout, it's probable that 15 lots will be created, rather than the allowed 16.
A site plan review was approved for George Miller to develop of property for a rental building for commercial use at 3085 Potato Road.
Humboldt County Regional Planning Commissioners will meet with legal counsel, District Attorney Mike Macdonald and City Attorney Kent Maher on March 13 to review what the Regional Planning Commission's duties include and do not include. The meeting will act as a refresher for RPC members who have served for a number of years on the board and will provide information to newer RPC members.[[In-content Ad]]
