Saturday, Aug. 23, Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) hosted their 6th Annual Buckaroo Dutch Oven Cook-Off Fundraiser at Riverview Park.
Nineteen individuals and teams competed in four different categories: International Dutch-Oven Society (3 dishes), Bean Master (2 dishes), Chuck Wagon (1 dish) and Youth (1 dish). Hundreds of people showed up to support NOS by tasting amazing food, listening to great music provided by L.N.O.Y., and trying to win over $2,000 of fantastic raffle prizes. Overall, this was NOS's biggest and best Dutch Oven Cook-Off yet, raising over $6,000 to help fund NOS programs!
This year's judges, Di An Putnam, Ed Kilgore, Bill Sims, Joe Garrotto, Brad Shultz and Marlene Brissenden had a tough and tasty job.
From each of the four categories, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team was chosen. Additionally, after everyone had tasted and voted on their favorite dishes, the People's Choice was awarded.
The International Dutch Oven Society 1st place winners were the Dutch Delights who traveled all the way from Burley, Idaho to compete. Second place went to last year's people's choice award winner, the Dutch Diva, and Kerry Tuckett came in 3rd. For the Bean Master Category, rLm Ranch came in 1st, Grandma's Team 2nd and the Hot Pots took 3rd. In the Chuck Wagon Category, the DOCO Doogles took 1st place, the Myers Masters 2nd, and Panda Monium came in 3rd. The Youth Competition this year had the most entries ever! All the kids did an amazing job and cooked up delicious food. Feisty Frank and Crazy Clyde took 1st place, the Sticky Finger Sisters came in 2nd and Rockin' Little "R" brand got 3rd.
A very special congratulation goes to this year's People's Choice Award Winner, rLm Ranch, who now have bragging rights for the next year.
Hopefully you are already looking forward to the 7th Annual Buckaroo Dutch Oven Cook-Off next August. In the meantime, check out www.Nevadaoutdoorschool.org to learn more about NOS and keep up with all of their great events offered throughout the year.
