DUI driver who caused death to be sentenced

WINNEMUCCA - The man who hit and killed a woman in Khoury's parking lot last September is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Sixth District Court.

John M. Farley, 31, pleaded no contest in January to driving under the influence causing death, a felony with a possible punishment of two to 20 years in prison.

According to court documents, witnesses said Farley was driving a pickup truck that struck Antonia Solis, 73, shortly before 7 a.m. on Sept. 17, 2011, in the store's parking lot on Grass Valley Road. Solis later died of her injuries.

Farley failed sobriety tests at the scene and was arrested. Tests confirmed his blood alcohol content shortly after the accident was above .08, the legal limit in Nevada.

Witnesses testified in previous court hearings in the case that Farley had been drinking the night before.
