WINNEMUCCA - Lowry High School's Julia Dufurrena was named the 3A Player of the Year by the league's coaches during the state basketball championships at the end of February.
Dufurrena, a senior, averaged 16.9 points and 10.5 rebounds a game to lead the Lady Buckaroos. Lowry finished the year at 17-6 but for a second consecutive season missed out on the playoffs.
The first-team, all-state squad included Elko's Emma Sprout and Sierra Dumas, Spring Creek's Zuleika Grinsell and Arrayana Edwards, Virgin Valley's Abbie Barnard and Truckee's Aleigh Krug.
Spring Creek's Holly Miller was named the Coach of the Year, as the Spartans won their fourth state championship in sixth years, with a win over Elko in the 2012 state tournament.
The second team featured Elko's Raelynn Forcella and Anna Dubois, Fernley's Jordan King and Brooke Mattice, Spring Creek's Kyla Siri and Virgin Valley's Cassidy Crandall.
Lowry's Betsy Guerrero was named to the honorable mention team along with Nikki Arquette and Alora Bonner (Virgin Valley), Jenny Rechel and Cady Cordes (Churchill County), Karlee Koopman and Taylor McKeever (Boulder City), Madi Estes (Spring Creek) and Anna Gane (Fernley).
