Draunidalo finishes third in high jump at state track and field championships

Smart places fifth in shot put

CARSON CITY - McDermitt High School sophomore Va Draunidalo finished third in the high jump this past weekend at the NIAA State Track and Field Championships at Carson High School in Carson City.

Draunidalo cleared 4 feet, 8 inches, earning her a third-place finish. She finished third as a freshman last year in Las Vegas.

Lunds's McCall Harness won the state championship with a mark of 5-1 and Smith Valley's Kellie Rogaczewski was second at 5-0. Wells' Mikayla Rodriguez and Austin's Emily Young each cleared 4-6 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

Fellow sophomore Andrea Smart was fifth in the shot put in her first state championship. Her nest toss on Saturday morning was 30-7.25.

Sierra Lutheran's Sabrina Ronato won the state title with a toss of 32-5. Tonopah's Ashley Gray was second at 31-9.75. Round Mountain's Morgan Manley was third at 31-2.75 was third and Owyhee's Kelli Catches, who won the Division IV North championship a week before in Winnemucca, was fourth with a throw of 31-1.50.

The Lady Bulldogs were 15th out of 18 teams with 10 points. Sierra Lutheran won the team champion with 114 points and Beatty was second at 104. Smith Valley (84), Eureka (72) and Sage Ridge (64) rounded out the top five.

Sierra Lutheran claimed the boys title as well with 129 points. Spring Mountain was was second at 96 and Virginia City (88) was third. Tonopah (66) and Beatty (62) completed the top five.
