Draunidalo finishes fourth in high jump at Fernley Invitational

Bulldogs travel to Winnemucca for regional meet

The McDermitt High School track and field team wrapped up its regular season this past Saturday at the Fernley Invitational.

Va Draunidalo continued her strong year in the high jump, with a fourth-place finish, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 6 inches.

She was second among Division IV athletes, as Smith Valley's Kellie Rogaczewski won the event at 5-0. Spring Creek's Sierra Hammer was third at 4-10 and Lowry's Rachel Sigurdson (4-8) was fourth.

Draunidalo also finished 23rd in the shot put with a toss of 23 feet, 3.50 inches. Fellow sophomore, Andrea Smart posted a 14th-place finish in the shot put at 27-6.75.

McDermitt was 15th as a team with five points. Elko won the team title with 141.50 points, Spring Creek was second with 114.50 and Lowry (52) and Fernley (51.50) were third and fourth, respectively. Yerington rounded out the top five with 51 points.

Brendan Wilson placed 35th in the 1,600 meters in a time of 6 minutes, 3.36 seconds for the McDermitt boys.

Churchill County won the team championship with 114.50 points. Elko was a close second at 108 points and Dayton finished third with 91. Fernley (62) and Spring Creek (60) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

McDermitt travels to Winnemucca this weekend for the Division IV North Regional Championships. Action gets underway at 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the Nevada State Track and Field Championships in Carson City on Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24, at Carson High School.
