WINNEMUCCA - McDermitt High School freshman Va Draunidalo turned in an eighth-place finish in the high jump at the Yerington Relays last Saturday in Yerington.
Draunidalo cleared 4 feet, 4 inches and was the only Division IV competitor in the field of 14. Division I-A North schools Fernley, Lowry, Churchill County, Dayton and Spring Creek claimed the top seven spots with Fernley's Katelyn Braswell winning with a height of 5-1.
Fellow freshman Andrea Smart finished 13th in the shot put with a throw of 26-11 and she was 21st in the discus at 70-5. Her throw in the shot put was best among athletes in Division IV as she was third in the discus. Two Virginia City girls were 15th and 18th in the discus.
On the boys side, Tyler Coble finished 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 34-7. However, he was second among those competing in Division IV. Virginia City's Connor Bills was 12th with a distance of 34-9. In addition, Coble placed 18th in the discus with a throw of 99-0 and was the best in Division IV.
Teammate Hawk Urban placed 20th in the discus at 96-6 and was 34th in the 1,600 meters in a time of 6 minutes, 4.38 seconds. Brendan Wilson finished 28th in the 1,600 meters at 5:51.91.
The Bulldogs make the short trip south to Winnemucca on Saturday for the Lowry Invitational at 9 a.m.
McDermitt heads to Yerington on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, for the Division IV North Regional Championships. Action starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 10, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 11.
The top four athletes in each event qualify for the NIAA State Championships to be held at Silverado High School in Las Vegas on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.
