Surrounded by her family, Dottie passed peacefully on March 18, 2013, at the age of 96, returning to her heavenly father, and reunited with Jack, her loving husband.
Dottie was preceded in death by her son, Dick Canatsey, and her grandson, Rick Canatsey. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Patti Davin, of Carson City, her sister Wanda Jackson, of Leawood, Kan., her loving grandchildren, Christy Canatsey-Malarchuk, Robb Canatsey, of Minden, her great-grandchildren, Dallyn Malarchuk, and Brandi Keenan, Brandon Dalton, niece, Sue Henderson, and nephews, Ted and Fred Bendure of Carson City, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Dottie was born Sept 9, 1916, in Rich Hill, Mo., to Mary and Albert Bendure.
She was the eighth of 11 children. She moved in the 1940s to Lovelock, Nev., where she met the love of her life. Jack and Dottie were dazzled by each other at a New Year's Eve party, and Jack then became Dottie's favorite customer at Felix's. It wasn't long after that they started their 58-year journey together.
Jack purchased the family business in Lovelock, and Dottie and Jack were constant companions at the soda fountain. Davins, originally started in 1918, went from a pool hall to the "place to be" for a morning cup of coffee, a banana split, a coke or the latest in outdoor sporting equipment.
Dottie's home was her castle. Her home and her garden displayed her life dream of being an interior decorator, and she was happiest welcoming family and friends for an exceptionally cooked meal. She was most comfortable in her home with her Pekingese friends at her side.
Wanda, Dottie's younger sister of 10 years, was Dottie's champion, always watching out for Dottie. Both Wanda and Dottie were as close as any two sisters could be, and best friends all their lives.
Special thanks to Danielle, Kori, Michelle, and Monette for their constant and loving care of mom. A special blessing for Margarita for being mom's angel.
Mom, I will miss your smile, your laugh, and your great story telling. May your journey be peaceful and joyous. Godspeed.
Please join us for a reception to celebrate Dottie's life on March 30 at 1 p.m. at 2766 Pinebrook Drive, Carson City. At Dottie's request, a family memorial service will be held in Lovelock at a later date.
