Donald "Robbie" Alvin Robinson passed away Nov. 17, 2014, just seven days before his 80th birthday after a long battle with diabetes and lung disease.
He was born Nov. 24, 1934, to Gertrude Smith Robinson and Ernest Gregory Robinson in National City, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ernest "Ernie". He is survived by his wife Loree; daughters Cherrie and Eva Marie; sister Lavina Robinson Herndandez, her children Sabrina, Cassandra and John Hernandez; great nephew David Hernandez, brother-in-law, Ronnie Hummel, nephew Mark Hummel, nieces Kathy Hummel Bartgis, and Ronda Hummel; and two grandchildren.
Don attended Winnemucca schools from about the age of eight, after his father, who was a World War II Navy Veteran, passed away. He entered the Navy in 1951 where he got his GED, then finished his four year term of enlistment in 1955. He made Boilerman Third Class in 1955, and was in Hong Kong, Japan, Bang Kok and Guam.
He married Loree in 1956, and they had one daughter together - Cherrie. They moved to Jerome, Idaho, in 1962 so his young daughter could attend the same school for the deaf that her mother had attended. His second daughter Eva Marie was born there while Don and Loree were unmarried. While there, he was a Jerome and Mountain Home police officer for 10 years.
Don and Loree remarried and returned to Winnemucca where he became a Winnemucca Police officer in 1978. He retired in 1988 then three days later went to work for Santa Fe Pacific Gold Corp as a security guard where he stayed for the next 11 years.
After his second retirement he enjoyed cars, family, and lunches at the Pleasant Center for Humboldt County senior citizen's.
A Masonic memorial with full military honors by the Post 5 American Legion will be held at the Winnemucca United Methodist Church with internment to follow in the Winnemucca Cemetery. Arrangements are being made at this time, and when complete the date and time will be posted at the Senior Center.
