Donald Neil Thomsen, 79, passed away March 20, 2014 at Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca, Nev. A Winnemucca native he was born to Carl E. and Nevada (Dingee) Thomsen on Dec. 25, 1934.
Don received his elementary education in Winnemucca and graduated from Grant Union High School in Sacramento, Calif. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was Honorably Discharged. Don worked for Western Union most of his life and was also employed with Pan Am Airlines as a sub-contractor with the Nevada Test Site in southern Nevada and Teamsters Headquarters in Las Vegas. He also worked in administration with the Salt Lake County sheriffs in Salt Lake City prior to moving back to Winnemucca in 1984 where he resided until his death. He enjoyed traveling around Nevada during his retirement.
Don enjoyed new family members, friends and neighbors in his later years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mervil E. Thomsen. He is survived by his nephew Edward Thomsen of Battle Mountain, Nev., a niece Tamera Kimsey of North Pole, Alaska and many cousins including Randy Dingee of Lovelock, Nev. and Gerry Lloid of Winnemucca.
No services are planned at this time with a private burial at a later date in the Winnemucca Cemetery.
