Don Sexton, a long-time resident of Winnemucca, passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 19, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Raymond, Wash., on Feb. 24, 1947, and came to Winnemucca in 1969.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Dave and June Sexton and sister Glenda Knox of Sparks, Nevada; also, his nephew DJ Sexton of Winnemucca, nephew Stan and wife Bethany of Gig Harbor, Wash., niece Melissa Knox of Pasadena, Calif., and niece Cindy and husband John Hamilton of Sparks; great nephews Konrad Sexton and Ben and Zak Hamilton and great niece Ashley Stanfield. He will be sorely missed by all, including some of his great friends: Ron Schrempp, Dennis Setzer, Tom Asbury, Jim Webb and Harley Hiles of Winnemucca and Dave Phegley of Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Toni Sexton, in 1979, father W. Glen Sexton in 1993 and stepmother Peggy Sexton in 1996.
He loved to fish, hunt, and just hang out with friends. Don enjoyed life in his own style. He was a long-time member of the Winnemucca Rural Fire Department.
His family wants to thank all of the people at Humboldt County Hospice and Genesis, including Sherry, Cindy, Kayla, Shawna, Yolanda, Joe, Toby and anyone else who helped him so much and were so caring during his last days.
There will be no service per his request. Donations can be made in his name to Humboldt County Hospice at 720 E 4th St. and Genesis Home Health Services at 8 E Haskell St., both of Winnemucca.
