Domestic violence organization to hold annual fundraiser Oct. 2

Event to be held at new location

LOVELOCK - Pershing County Domestic Violence Intervention Inc. is holding its annual Soup and Salad Supper at a new location.

The fundraiser that provides revenue for the local domestic violence advocacy group will be held at the C Punch Ranch Inn, formerly known as Sturgeon's, on Oct. 2 from 5 p.m to 7:30 p.m.

"We hope that everyone will know about our new location this year and come out to support the great cause," Pershing County Domestic Violence Intervention Director Flossie Redd said.

Other than the new location, the event will carry on as usual. The soup and salad affair will feature soups from local restaurants and salads from many individuals.

Redd said there is still a need for more salads. If anyone would like to donate a salad, put it in a disposable container and drop it off at the Center Club by 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Attendees of the fundraiser will be entertained by the personality of Steve Evenson, the evening's master of ceremonies.

Redd said she could not begin to name all the raffle items that will be available.

Mike DeWitt will be auctioning off many high dollar items, including a stay at the Atlantis Casino in Reno with a $50 gift certificate and two tickets to the Reno Philharmonic; six tickets to an Aces ball game; punched tin artwork and an 18-quart Oster roaster oven are among many other auction items.

"It's a fun time to get together with friends and neighbors and to raise money to help victims of domestic violence," Redd said.

All proceeds from the evening will go to the PCDVI to help provide services. PCDVI services include providing emergency shelter victims of domestic violence, legal support and referrals, counseling referrals for victims and their children; assistance in obtaining temporary protection orders, alcohol and substance abuse referrals; child care and transportation. The funds will supplement areas that grant funds don't cover, Redd said.

Tickets for the dinner are sold at the door and will cost $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and children ages six to 12; five and under are free.

To donate raffle or auction items, Redd asked that people call her at 273-7373 so that she can have a complete list of items. Pick-up arrangements can also be made for items and food by calling Redd at the above phone number.[[In-content Ad]]
