WINNEMUCCA - Keeping children healthy and in the classroom benefits everyone. As kids begin to grow, they may be around other kids and adults who may or may not be vaccinated. One of the best ways to keep your child healthy is keeping up-to-date with immunizations. Nevada law requires immunizations for child care and school entry.
Children entering school for the first time in Nevada - those in preschool programs, kindergarten, and those who have just moved from out of state in any grade, may need more shots before the first day of school. Preschool and kindergarten children over the age of four need what are commonly called the "four year boosters," which include a DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis or whooping cough), polio, chickenpox and MMR (measles and mumps) boosters.
Students entering seventh grade must have a Tdap booster prior to the first day of school. The new Affordable Care Act requires that all insurances cover recommended and required immunizations. If your child does not have insurance coverage, then low cost immunizations are available from the community health nurse.
You can now also view and print your own child's immunization record online. Go to https://izrecord.nv.gov/public/WebCode/PublicPortal/Frame.aspx to learn more about this great service for parents.
