Dodgeball tournament to raise money for the Frontier Community Action Agency's Back-Pack Kids Program

There will be a dodgeball tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Winnemucca Junior High School to raise money for the Frontier Community Action Agency's Back-Pack Kids Program.

Teams will consist of six-eight players and must have two girls and at least one male on team. Entrance fees for teams are $30 and there is a $2 spectator fee.

Back Pack Kids Program "No child hungry," was the vision of Winnemucca Mayor, Di An Putnam, at one of the first meetings of the Family Stability Council.

To make it happen, the council, in partnership with the Winnemucca Food Bank, started the Back- Pack Kids Program as part of the outreach to families, ensuring that the children do not go hungry on the weekends. The Back-Pack Kids Program started in 2007 at the Winnemucca Grammar School.

The Frontier Community Action Agency is continuing this program in partnership with the Food Bank. They hope to continue to help this program grow and reach the more than 300 students in the district who are still in need.

The program is currently serving 150 children at WGS. Each child receives a back-pack that contains two breakfast meals, two entrees for lunch or dinner, juice, milk, chocolate milk, and snacks. A quality back-pack is also given to the student, if they do not already have one. All of this is at no cost to the student or family. Students must qualify for the free lunch program through the Humboldt County School District to be eligible for this program.

Volunteers from school organizations and various community groups gather together each week at the Winnemucca Food Bank to help pack the bags.

You can register at Nevada Outdoor School Office, 655 Anderson St., Winnemucca, NV 89445. The registration deadline is Saturday, Jan. 10. For more information, contact Cathy Yates at (775) 623-5656 or email her at Cathy.Yates@nevadaoutdoorschool.org[[In-content Ad]]
