Diabetes support group to meet at Humboldt General Hospital on Aug. 7

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital's Diabetes Support Group will discuss carbohydrates next week.

"Carbohydrates - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the hospital's Sonoma conference room.

Sarah Achleithner, a recent graduate of the University of Nevada Reno in Dietetics, will be the evening's guest presenter.

There is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.

According to Humboldt General Hospital Director of Nutrition and Dietary Services Tiffani Nalivka, understanding the effect of carbohydrate on blood glucose levels is key to managing diabetes.

Nalivka said, "The key to keeping blood glucose levels at a healthy goal is to balance the food you eat with your physical activity and any pills or insulin you take."

Diabetics, pre-diabetics, caregivers and those who are interested in preventing diabetes are invited to learn more.

For more information, please contact Nalivka at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1756 or via email at nalivkat@hghospital.ws.
